So finally I get a chance to interview you. Well it may not be a right place to start an interview, as we are sitting on the backseat of a taxi and heeding to a place for New Year celebration , but its hard to find a suitable place and steal time from your hectic corporate life, so I guess, its good to utilize this time and begin.
Just to give readers a background , I have been trying to interview my husband , who served Army and is working at a senior position in the corporate world.
Do I have a choice? he laughingly replied..Shoot.
So why is it said " once a Fauji, always a Fauji"?
It is to do with the institution of the Fauj. You learn, grow and understand life in a very righteous way and in a particular discipline. The journey from being a man to a gentleman. One can leave army by choice, but what it has given to an individual , that no one can take away. So the leanings still remain and memories you create never fade off. The trainings are very tough and the routine and regime are very tight. You learn each and everyday, how to outstretch your capabilities and those outstretching finally helps you in shaping what you become. So what you become, will always exist.
So you still a Fauji, even though you left Fauj long back in 2005?
Yes, as I said what the institution gives, always remains.
Is "Fauj" about Patriotism and my country my pride only ?
No, its not like that only. It's more to do with the people you are with, in "Fauj" we call Camaraderie. The heroic acts that you hear happen not only due to patriotism only, it's more about with whom you are working with, the Regiment, the Battalion. As we say - Naam, Namak & Nishan. Naam being the honor of your Regiment, Battalion , Namak - Loyalty towards your organization and team you are with and Nishan - keeping your flag high. Flag of your Regiment and your country. So basically "Fauj" is all about living life for your people, country and serving with pride.
What made you join "Fauj"?
Primarily it was feeling of Patriotism. Wanted to serve my country. Until one enters " Fauj" we don't know what other things it has to offer. In my case journey from turning from a cadet into an officer.
